Diamond skin blackens menus sometimes on XP

Hi, an issue I experience since using WB and the Diamond skin: sometimes the context menus or the window menus are black.

Here are screenshots:

1 context menus are black sometimes

2 sometimes they get black when an entry is hovered over with the mouse, particularly likely to get in Impulse

3 the part of windows hidden by other windows are black when moved

4 black menus in an application window, particularly unwanted in VirtualDub and WordPerfect where I don't know the menu entries yet.

5 a variant: some menus are "broken" as not all entries are shown and the shown ones may be squeezed

6 finally the very first opened window after a boot has black frame borders drawn inside the window at the top right and bottom left. Also the windows size shrinks compared to previous opens.

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 6.3 (build 68 x86)

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC
WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC
Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

Hello Planetlars

Check your shared folder to see if there is more than one diamond WB there. I've seen this before as when I had 2 themes for diamond via my colors and a WB cinfig update as such.

If you do not then it is more likely a bad install of WB. Try this - uninstall wb - besure to go back to that same folder in the shared files and delete the diamond theme. Then reinstall WB - the new diamond will be installed with the new install.

Thanks! reinstalling may have corrected the issue! I didn't have 2 Diamond skins (or better I have but one is a Vista one) but I have MyColors installed and my WB installation didn't verify correctly. The only issue remaining is variant 6 from the screenshots above. I'll post again here if I find the issue to be not rectified after all. Thanks again, ShelbyGT!

edit: variant 2 just came back. Maybe this is bc Impulse uses its own skin overriding Diamond?

What type of Radeon Express do you actually have?

Some older ATI Video cards have some bugs in their drivers when it comes to per pixel alpha which diamond & the Impulse skin use on menus.

Hi, it's a Radeon Xpress 1100 in an Acer laptop using the 8.11 Catalyst currently.

is a WFX issue in fact. Solved by disabling transparent menus although I liked them when they worked.

I have the same issue on my XP machine with Diamond and it just did it with the Aero Midnight. If you turn the tranparency down to much it will cause this. You have to experiment, turn the tranparency down a little at a time.

If you want to change transparency of menus then use the WindowBlinds control for it under Transparency and Blur.

Yes, but if you turn the transparency down to far the menus go black (on XP using Diamond).
